He is the progenitor of the Naff families in Franklin County and the Roanoke Valley of Virginia. He was born near the Swiss-German border in 1727 and immigrated to America on the ship "Dragon", arriving in Philadelphia on September 26, 1749. He settled in Lancaster County, PA and married Eva Catherine Flory in 1755. In 1782, he moved his family to Franklin County, VA. He received a patent from Edmond Randolph, Governor of Virginia for 314 acres, and later purchased an additiona 559 acres near the junction of the North & South Forks of Magoddee Creek. He lived and worked this farm for the remainder of his life. The Naff Family Cemetery is located on his original homestead, about 500 yards from where the original home stood.

He is the son of Eld. Abrabam Naff & Hannah (Peters) Naff. He operated the Naff farm which was part of the original tract settled by his great-grandfather Jacob Naff Sr. in 1782. He was a minister and elder in the Church of the Brethren, and was active and influential in his district, traveling on horseback with his contemporary elders to the adjoining counties. Abraham Naff was a well known minister and elder in the Church of the Brethren. He conducted services in his home, performed many marriages and other religous rites.
