    Notes:

Not listed in "Notable Southern Families" as a child of James Montgomery

Submitted by James Montgomery Hurst,Jr., CMS 259.

David Montgomery was originally a Presbyterian minister; later a Primitive Baptist preacher.
In his early life he lived in Amherst Co., Virginia, then Fairfield Co., South Carolina before descending into Franklin County, Georgia (Clarke Co. today) and then to Jasper County, Georga. He was a Justice of the Peace in Randolph County, GA (later Jasper Co.) from 8/10/1802.

May have been born in Pennsylvania or even Ireland. Buried in family cemetery.

Other members of his family lived nearby in Jackson Co., Georgia (James, his father, and uncle David Montgomery.) NOTE: This family linkage was disputed by other descendants of this James Montgomery (see below.) DNA testing in 2006 showed that the DNA results for James Montgomery Hurst's line does NOT match the DNA results from other descendants of this James Montgomery, which would seem to substantiate the dispute. As a result, this David Montgomery has been unlinked with James Montgomery in the CMSI database..

8/27/98 - There is some controversy regarding the parents of David. While James Montgomery Hurst feels that David's father is Capt. James Montgomery, Judith Montgomery Becker, CMS 823, contends that there is no proof of this and that David and his descendants should not be included here. In his book, "The Descendants of Hugh Montgomery, Sr. and Some Related Families", D.C. Montgomery, Jr. does not list David or Elizabeth as being children of James and Elizbeth McConnell Montgomery. However, he also does not list John R. Montgomery as a child of James Montgomery and his second wife, Susannah Strange, yet both Judy M. Becker and James M. Hurst list this child, so the lists in the D.C. Montgomery book thus become suspect.

2006 - As reported in the Spring 2006 issue of the CMSI News Magazine, DNA tests prove conclusively that the families of James M. Hurst and Judy M. Becker are NOT directly related. Therefore, David Montgomery has been removed as a child of Capt. James Montgomery and now heads a separate lineage. However, these same DNA test results indicate that David Montgomery was directly related to another Montgomery lineage submitted by Robert C. "Bob" Montgomery, CMS 171.
