    I Francis Smith of the County of Smyth and State of Virginia considering the uncertainty of life, and being of sound mind, do make this my last will and testament.
    To my Son John, I give that portion of my farm lying west, commencing at a Sycamore on the bank of the river below the grocery then running to a black oak standing in the grave-yard, on the same direction until it comes to the fence, thence running with said fence to the middle of the ridge above the spring thence with the middle of said ridge to the __?__ of the little mountain.
    To my son Frank, I five all my land lying east of the above described line to Wyndham Robertson’s line.
    All my land lying west of the portion above given to my son John, from John’s timbered Land west I give to my son Samuel and his children, this portion of land that I give to my son Samuel and his children is to be in the care and charge of William Galliher, who is to sell said land at such time as he may think best, and the proceeds of said piece of land to be applied to the benefit of Samuel Smith and his four children.
    To my son Frank, I give the “Brown Mare” and to my son John, I give the Bay horse. The young sorrel horse to be sold by William Galliher, and the proceeds to be applied by him to the payment of Doctor bills, the wagon and farming implements to belong to John and Frank jointly.
    My wife to have the rent of all my land during the time she remains my widow, she is to remain at the homestead and be entitled to the rent as above stated, from all the land cultivated on my lands, as long as she remains my widow. Give under my hand this 15 day of April 1876.
