My great-great grandfather, Harvey Blackburn Montgomery was the son of Hiram Spears and Charlotte Massa.
Charlotte Massa married Leftwich Montgomery on 26 Oct 1846 in White County TN. (Source Bettie Goolsby
Doyle, a Massa Family researcher) According the 1850 Census, Leftwich Montgomery and Charlotte Massa are
living in MO with one child. In 1860 Charlotte Massa Montgomery is living in White County, TN near some
relatives. No one knows what happened to Leftwich Montgomery. According to Bettie Doyle, Charlotte
Massa Montgomery had three children fathered by Hiram Spears, one of them being my great-great
grandfather, Harvey Blackburn Montgomery. The three children fathered by Hiram Spears carried the
Montgomery surname, but were not a Montgomery.
Hiram Spears must have been a character. Because according some other information I have read, Hiram
fathered children by three different women. However, he only had one wife. I have corresponded with other
people that are wanting to learn more about Charlotte Massa and Hiram Spears. But trying to learn more about
this couple is proving difficult.
