      Anecdotal info:
      Name may have been Christopher Columbus Drake Montgomery, but no proof found of Drake name.

      Believed to be the youngest of large family; orphaned at early age. Family may have been killed in Indian attack in Pennsylvania.

      Joined the Union Army in Coles Co., IL in 1861; first real records. Record states place of birth as Mattoon, Coles Co., IL; signed by making his mark. Made a number of sick leave trips back to Mattoon, Coles Co., IL during military duty although no record of land ownership or family ties there. Wife was able to get pension after his death.

      Military records show him to be about 2 years older than census data from Boone, Boone Co., MO after the war; census also shows his birthplace as Ohio. Married Emma Bush in Hallsville, Boone Co., MO in 1874. There is no record of his whereabouts between last military record, about 1862-3, and this marriage.
