"George J. Montgomery Jr., Candidate for re-election as State Tax Collector, knows his office like a book, for he has been at or near its helm for one-third of a century. Not only does he know his duties, he discharges them well.
"His candidacy for re-election is endorsed by The Times-Picayune in Tuesday's election. He had the newspaper's backing in the Democratic primary in November.
"It is a measure of his public appreciation that he polled more than four times as many votes in the primary as his competitor. Mr. Montgomery's public service merits a new term."
